Carbide Tools Ltd is more than just a company, it’s the culmination of a family’s dedication to innovation and quality.
Our story began in 1997 when Vanessa and Paul, instead of going on their honeymoon, invested in their dream by purchasing a machine and setting it up in their garage.
From humble beginnings, they grew their first business to a thriving operation with 25 staff and customers spanning the globe.
In 2016, Paul identified a gap in New Zealand’s market for tungsten carbide cutting tools. Determined to bring their expertise to new heights, the family relocated to New Zealand and founded Carbide Tools Ltd in 2018.
Today, we proudly stand as the experienced custom tungsten carbide cutting tool manufacturer in the country, blending over 38 years of industry experience with state-of-the-art CNC grinding technology.
We are driven by the same passion that started in that garage. From standard tools to bespoke solutions, we provide unmatched quality and service, always staying true to our roots as a customer-focused, family-driven business.

Questions we are usually asked about
Yes we certainly can, this is our specialty.
Tungsten carbide is our preferred material but we strive to find solutions so just ask!
No, our policy is KIS (Keep It Simple). Hand sketches are acceptable and dialogue is important to get you what you need.
It does happen where this is done, but we cannot be held responsible for scaling cutter sizes to match job requirements. We will always get your full commitment on any recommended designs before going ahead with manufacturing a cutting tool.
We will draw and simulate your requirement and send you a 3D drawing of the finished product. This is usually enough.
We are careful not to overstep patent rules, but most times we can redesign a cutting tool for a certain application or may have made one before. By all means, please send us a sample of your requirement.
Yes, depending on the size of your requirement. We have often been able to get businesses out of a tight spot.
We have always adopted the international cutting tool DIN spec. This is the same as all the bigger manufacturers. But we do accommodate customers when they have specific requirements where possible.
Yes, often this is the best and cheapest route but may not always work. We will highlight any shortfalls, if any.
Yes, within reason and after we have agreed on the when, where and how. We can move our simulating technology anywhere.

REECE ZIMMERMAN
Reece is an experienced CNC Machinist at Carbide Tools Ltd, specializing in the production of standard stock and regrinds. Reece plays an integral role in maintaining our stock levels, executing regrind services, and ensuring that each product is manufactured to our exacting standards. ROXY

True to her Labrador nature, she specializes in client engagement, morale boosting, and snack detection. STORM
As Head of Security, Storm takes his job seriously—always keeping a watchful eye on the premises, ensuring everything is in order, and alerting the team to any unusual activity (or suspicious delivery drivers). With the natural intelligence and agility of a Border Collie, Storm excels in perimeter monitoring, rapid response to unexpected noises, and enforcing playtime regulations.
His key responsibilities include:
· Conducting thorough security sweeps (especially near the treat cupboard)
· Herding the team back to their desks when distractions arise
· Barking at potential intruders—unless they bring snacks
